Base Preparation

Base Preparation with Hot Waxes

ZIPPS provides three groups of hot waxes for this purpose:

1. High Fluorine Waxes, which we recommend for those who want to apply a powder or finish spray immediately after hot waxing. We offer HF ironing waxes in three temperature ranges.

2. Low Fluorine Waxes, which are to be used when a fluorinated ZR or ZR HS product is to be applied as an intermediate layer before the finish. Low Fluorine Waxes are also available for three temperature ranges.

3. Zero Fluorine Waxes, which function similarly to Low Fluorine Waxes but are for fluorine-free application.

Base Preparation with TopBase 20 or TopBase 21

TopBase is not a wax but a polymer with high abrasion resistance. Apply a thin layer with the sponge applicator onto the clean and dry base. While still wet, brush out in the direction of travel using a hard ZIPPS natural hairbrush (twice by hand or once with a rotor brush). Allow it to dry. Then, refine with a fine brush (ZIPPS nylon fine hand brush two to three times, rotor brush one to two times). Now, the appropriate wax for the conditions can be applied in 1-2 layers. Racers prepare with the waxes of the ZR series. After using the ZIPPS TopBase 20 and TopBase 21 polymers, skis can be easily cleaned with the ZIPPS cleaner C 31. Then re-prime to protect the base from oxidation.

Base Preparation with Liquid Waxes

Our G-Series for Training and Sport

The four ZIPPS products from the G series offer a time-saving and cost-effective alternative to base preparation with hot waxes: fluorinated GT 20, GR 20, GR 30, and GR NewSnow or unfluorinated GT 21, GR 21, GR 31, and GR NewSnow 1. GT 20 and GT 21 are hard waxes suitable for cold and dry conditions, as well as a base for long distances. GR 20 and GR 21 are somewhat softer than GT 20/GT 21. GR 30/GR 31 and GR NewSnow/GR NewSnow 1 are based on the same platform but optimized for their areas of use through the addition of additives and wax raw materials.

Preparation

The base must be clean to achieve optimal adhesion and wetting of the surface. Hot waxing and thorough brushing provide the best conditions for this. The base can also be cleaned with two layers of G / G Zero and subsequent brushing.

Application and Drying

It is more effective to apply two to three thin layers rather than one thick layer. The direction in which the sponge applicator is moved does not matter. When a layer has dried (a white film will be clearly visible), it is corked with a hand or rotor cork or a rotor fleece. The second and possibly a third layer are applied in the same way. Drying times between steps are 5 to 10 minutes, depending on room conditions.

Brushing

After the final corking, the ski should air out for at least 10 minutes before brushing begins. For liquid waxes, use a natural bristle or hard nylon brush (blue) for the first step, followed by a soft finish brush. For a perfect finish, an ultra-fine finish brush can be used in a third step.
